Seven Day Detox.... Day Six
The penultimate day in your seven day detox program. Hopefully, you're starting to feel refreshed and more energetic.
Breakfast
A fresh fruit salad; choose from apples, oranges, grapes, peaches, cherries and apricots. A helping of plain yoghurt and a glass of hot water with a little honey.
Mid-Morning Snack
A glass of freshly pressed vegetable juice.
Lunch
A Tomato & Herb Omelette made in a non-stick pan with the faintest trace of butter. A big mixed raw vegetable salad and some fresh fruit.
Tomato & Herb Omelette Recipe:
1 medium tomato
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 free-range eggs
2 tablespoons herbs (parsley,chives,chervil)
sea salt & black pepper to season
Skin and chop the tomato - dip it in boiling water for a couple of minutes and the skin will slide off easily. Beat the eggs in a bowl then add the herbs and seasoning. Save some herbs for garnishing.
Have a hot plate ready. Heat the oil . When it is sizzling hot, tip in the egg mixture. Using a fork, keep lifting the edges so that the uncooked egg on the top can run underneath.
Cooking time should be about a minute and the egg should be slightly runny on top. Roll out the omelette, sprinkle with the remaining herbs and serve at once.
Mid-Afternoon Snack
A glass of fruit juice or a cup of weak tea.
Main Meal
A casserole of root vegetables, 'Rice-n-Roots' seasoned with fresh herbs. Followed by vegetable salad and a banana or ripe pear.
Rice-n-Roots Recipe:
125g/4oz Brown Rice
1 large leek
1 large onion
2 cloves garlic
2 large carrots
1 small swede
2 small turnips
1 stick celery
1 medium potato
A little olive oil
1 tablespoon tomato puree
2pints vegetable stock
A good pinch of mixed herbs
Black pepper
Chopped Parsley to garnish
Wash the rice thoroughly and cook as pack instructions. Make enough rice for day seven. Clean and cut up all vegetables. Heat the oil and soften the onion, garlic and a little of the leek, without browning. Add the remaining vegetables and stir fry until almost cooked.
Transfer everything to an oven-proof casserole. Stir in the tomato puree with a dash of tamari, the herbs and some ground black pepper. Bring to the boil and cover. Transfer to a pre-heated oven 180DegC/350DegF/Gas 4, and cook for about 1.5 hours.
Serve in soup bowls together with 2 tablespoons of the cooked rice and a garnish of chopped parsley.
The second to last day can sometimes be a struggle if you haven't stuck to the correct foods or followed the recipes.
Hopefully you have and you now have a taste for your healthier lifestyle.
Only one more day to go, so start thinking about how you're going to organise your diet in the future. Why not try making your own flapjacks or better still, your own bread. There's nothing quite like homemade bread.
Day Three
The Third day and over the fasting period. Now you can eat some good wholesome food.
Day Six
Your Penultimate day of detox. Hang in there and complete the full seven day program for maximum benefits.
Day Four
The fourth day of your detox program. Halfway through and getting into the swing of things.
