BANAPPLE TOFU SMOOTHIE... very more-ish

Lip smacking... Yummy... Fruit Smoothie

Strawberries Bananas and apples contain pectin, which helps remove toxins and excess cholesterol from the digestive tract. It also encourages the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, which is essential to maintain harmony and prevent the overgrowth of bad bacteria such as Candida albicans. Many digestive complaints are of an inflammatory nature, so pumpkin seeds are an important part of this drink as they contain plenty of the omega-3 essential fatty acids, which have an anti-inflammatory effect throughout the body. You could also use sunflower or sesame seeds. Grind the seeds in a coffee grinder if your food processor is not strong enough, as they can irritate an inflamed digestive system if eaten whole.

Ingredients:

  • 3 teaspoons of pumpkin seeds
  • 400 gm (14 oz) of organic tofu, drained and cubed
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 medium unpeeled apples, quartered and cored
  • 1½ litres of rice milk or oat milk

Method:

Grind the seeds in a food processor or coffee grinder to release their essential fats and prevent any irritation in the gut. Add the remainder of the ingredients and blend for 1-2 minutes until smooth.

PEPPER-PARSNIP SOUP... tasty.

Warm... Comforting... Tasty, Filling Food...

Good Digestion - Pepper Parsnip Soup Parsnips are known to improve bowel function and to detoxify and cleanse the digestive tract. Because they tend to taste quite sweet, this soup is suited to those who enjoy creamy, mild soups rather than a more complex taste. Peppers contain good antioxidants for reducing the damage caused by bacterial infection, as well as being an excellent intestinal cleaner.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and chopped roughly
  • 560 gm (20 oz) of parsnips, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 2 red peppers, washed, cored and de-seeded
  • 1.1 litres (2 pints) of vegetable stock
  • ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg

Method:

Heat the oil in a heavy-based saucepan over medium heat, then sweat the onions for 2 minutes. Add parsnips and cook for a further 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped peppers and stir for 1 minute, then pour in the stock and add nutmeg. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until parsnips are softened and then transfer to blender. Blend until smooth, then reheat and serve.

GINGER AND MINT TEA... refreshing.

Warm... Spicy... Refreshing...

Good Digestion - Ginger and Mint Tea Ginger contains anti-spasmodic qualities and helps to quell nausea. It is also used to relieve morning sickness during pregnancy. This gentle, calming tea will sooth your stomach when digestive upsets prevent you from eating anything at all, as well as relieving cramps and indigestion caused by fatty foods. Peppermint is used in hospitals for its potent calming elements which reduce gas and associated discomfort after abdominal surgery. Make a large batch and store the remainder in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Ingredients:

  • 450 gm (16 oz) of fresh root ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 6 sprigs of fresh peppermint, washed
  • 1.1 litres (2 pints) of still mineral water, boiled

Method:

Place the sliced ginger and mint into large heat-proof jug and add the hot mineral water. Leave to stand for at least 15 minutes before drinking.
