Using our quick and easy bread recipe means preparation only takes around 10 to 15 minutes and cooking only around 30 minutes. The only other time involved is in leaving your bread dough to rise and the yeast to activate.
You can allow as little as one to two hours or prepare in the morning, leave to rise then cook when you come home from work.
Be sure to compare the ingredients in this quick and easy bread recipe with your store bought bread, to see just what you won't be putting through your digestive system.
Grease your loaf tin, flour your kneading board and set some extra flour aside.
Place the flour in a large mixing bowl, add the yeast, salt and sugar and mix through with your fingers.
Pour in the lukewarm water and mix to a sticky, cohesive dough then turn out onto your floured board.
Knead for up to ten minutes using a little extra flour when your dough gets too sticky, it sticks to your hands or to the board. Once your dough feels alive and springy, shape it and pop it in a large, lightly buttered, loaf tin or cut in two and place in two small loaf tins.
Cover with a clean tea towel and place in a draught free cupboard to rise for an hour or two.
Pre-heat your oven ten minutes before the dough is ready to around 235 degrees. Uncover the dough and place the loaf tin(s) in the oven for around 30 minutes
If the loaf sounds hollow take out, turn out and tap the bottom with a knife to make sure the base sounds hollow. If not return to the oven and check again in ten minutes.
If all sounds right turn the loaf out and leave to cool on a wire rack or on top of the loaf tin. Making sure to allow air to circulate around the loaf.
Wait for your homemade bread to cool a little before cutting a slice and trying it warm with a little butter or your favorite low fat spread. You can experiment with this homemade bread recipe by adding a little honey or oilve oil with the water and reducing the butter, or including some dried fruit. I sometimes add a dash of Tabasco for a little heat.
